Description
What was once a pharmaceutical office has been converted into a residence. The project takes advantage of the ground floor’s elevated level in relation to the street, whilst the basement opens out onto a spacious concrete courtyard. Partial demolition was used strategically to shape the site and introduce topographical variations — an attempt to bring a fragment of the hillside into the urban fabric.
The original concrete structure remains exposed, embraced as an expressive and structural element. The façade appears to have been erected upon a pre-existing structure: from the old house emerges a new composition, characterised by a double-height glazed section that contrasts with the small upper openings, remnants of the original building. The complex takes on an ambiguous, almost animal-like presence — with visible ‘legs’ and a retracted body — suggesting an organism caught between the past and its new inhabited form.
